Well here we are so far..... In Changi Airport in Singapore. Had a good flight from Brisbane, Rick and I slept most of the way. We have a 3 hour stopover in Singapore until our flight to Hanoi. Changi Airport is massive and you could have a holiday just in this place alone. Our flight arrived at Terminal 1 and our flight to Hanoi leaves from Terminal 2 so we caught the skytrain in the airport to the Terminal, wicked! Heaps of smoking rooms within the airport for us die hard smokers, bonus.
We are both really tired, need showers and a big nanny nap and poppy snooze which we will get once we arrrive in Hanoi and get to the guesthouse we are staying in. Looking forward to that, once we revitalise after our nap it will be off to explore the Old Quarter of Hanoi, shopping and eating, can't wait to get into the vietnamese food.
Until our post tonight, hello to everyone at work and home and guess what? Not missing anything over there. Ha Ha!
We are here!!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool. Flight from Singapore to Hanoi was good, slept the 3 hours after they fed us. Singapore Airlines is a great Airline to fly, we have flown a few times with them overseas and can't fault their service and always on time. No hassle getting thru the airport at Hanoi, our driver was waiting, no speak English so it was a quiet trip to the guesthouse. The traffic is madness, the Vietnamese like Thai people luv their car and bike horns, but they do beep them out of courtesy not road rage like Aussies. Our little Guesthouse is right in the middle of the Old Quarter and comfortable, the staff are nice and friendly and the room is small but quaint, not a honeymoon suite like you would get in a 4 or 5 star hotel but it has a balcony which is what we wanted.
We checked into the guesthouse and while I was organising our train trip to Sa Pa in 2 days and Cruise on Ha Long bay Rick hung out and got to know a couple of the locals (they fixed his shoes for him, charged him more than the shoes cost and finally got the message that he can haggle as good as they could). All done and off to our room to unpack & have showers. No nanny nap today as we went for a walk to find a 7 eleven to get some coffee, sugar and milk. Trying to dodge the cars and motorbikes in the tiny streets of the Old Quarter was a feat in itself but we got there and back in one piece and with our shopping in the bag all in tact.
Hanoi is 3 hours behind Queensland so the time difference will take a bit of getting used to especially meal and bedtime. We had an early dinner, Hanoi time and went to a great little restaurant across from the guesthouse called "The Tamarind" a vegetarian restaurant and had a really great, fresh meal cooked in clay pots, gonna love the food here in Vietnam.
The weather is quiet unexpectedly cold as the North of Vietnam has just come out of its winter and into spring and of course Rick and I being used to Asia always being hot and humid didn't bring warm clothes, just undies, tee shirts and shorts so tomorrow we are off shopping to get some warmer clothes, long pants and for me also a jacket or some kind of jumper. We will need them for when we go to Sa Pa as it is further north and will be even colder. Should have brought the Ugg Boots!!!!!! Well big day of travelling so early night, its 7.30pm Hanoi time and 10.30pm Queensland time and sleep time for us two old farts. Just a couple of pictures added to todays blog. More tomorrow when we go out exploring. Hellos to everyone, we are here and happy.
